5 of the Most Beautiful Wonders of the World Tourist Attractions

11/30/2012

The world is full of amazing wonders both natural and manmade that are tourist attractions for a once in a lifetime experience. Australia’s Great Barrier Reef, Yosemite Valley in California, Machu Picchu in Peru, Hong Kong in China and the pyramids of Egypt are just five places where wonders never cease.

The Great Pyramid of Giza is a Wonder of the Ancient World and the only one of the seven still standing. It is approximately 4500 years old and is the largest of the pyramids in Egypt. Egypt is a country of mystery with mummy’s curses and rumours of aliens who gave the technology for these mighty constructions. Egypt also has wonderful sandy beaches with five star hotels and many water sports along the Red Sea. With the Nile civilization and the Temples at Luxor and Karnak, Egypt is an extremely popular tourist destination.

Australia’s Great Barrier Reef is the largest coral reef ecosystem in the world. It has 10,000 species of fish and birds that it supports. Diving or snorkelling near the reef is an experience not to be missed. The colour and variety of fish is astounding along with many other animals. Even if diving isn’t considered a great way to spend a vacation, at least snorkelling for an hour is worth the trip. Words cannot describe the alternate universe under the sea near the coral. It is the largest single structure made of living things and can be seen from space.

Yosemite Valley in California continues to amaze visitors who have seen it many times. A glacier carved a valley through solid granite and left behind some of the most magnificent cliffs and waterfalls that can be seen anywhere. El Capitan, a sheer cliff which is a real challenge even for professional rock climbers, Half Dome, literally a mountain top cut in half, Mirror Lake that reflects the grandeur, and the many meters high waterfalls make this a real wonder especially in the spring when the snow starts to melt.

Machu Picchu in Peru is one of the new Seven Wonders of the World for good reason. It is a mystical place with hidden alignments to the sun and stars. Fortunately, it is not an easy place to visit, but the trek is worth it. The city is 2300 meters above sea level with a spectacular view of the mountains. Built around 1400, it is a well planned estate for agriculture, ritual and spiritual life. It was abandoned one century later when the Spanish came to the area. They never found it, and that is one reason it still contains the Incan mystery. It is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Among the man made wondrous tourist destinations, Hong Kong stands out. It is a vibrant, crowded city alive with restaurants, clubs and neon lights that go on for miles and have to be seen to be believed. It offers some of the best food in the world from its high quality restaurants to the sidewalk cafes. There is no better place on Earth for a stag party. There are other sites such as the Peak Tram to the top of Victoria Peak where there are spectacular views of the high rise buildings and many waterways. There is also a world class zoological and botanical garden and outer islands that are actually deserted and perfect for a stag party picnic in the wild. The Tsim Sha Tsui Promenade through Victoria Harbor is the shopper’s and tourist’s paradise. It is worth a trip for the amazing beauty and Chinese culture as well as the clubbing and shopping.
